Areas of Research Interests/ Research Projects

He was the principal investigator over ten National 863 plans project, NSFC funds, and funds from industrials. His major research interests include but not limited to the followings: heat transfer (micro-scale heat transfer, enhanced heat transfer, electronic device cooling, new theory of heat); thermal control and management of aircraft.

Research Status

The research on thermal analyses and heat transfer enhancement is related to the cooling of MEMS and electronic devices, diesel engine, techniques for high heat flux density and heat transfer enhancement theory.

Thermal management of flying vehicles include the investigation of the ground-based simulation method of flow and heat transfer, the ventilation in cabins, and the thermal management techniques for the fuel of air engine and battery that can fully utilizes the heat sink resources and control the temperature.

Optimization theory is based on the new concept of entransy. The entransy decrease principle, the thermal equilibrium criteria based on entransy, the entransy balance equation with work process, the extreme principles for convection and thermal radiation were developed. The principles can be used to optimize the heat transfer process.

The investigations of the microscale heat conduction by molecular dynamics simulation, phonon theory focus on size and interface effects in nano-films, superlattices, nano-tubes, polycrystalline and micro structures. The purpose is to understanding the mechanisms behind the phenomena, such as size effect, rectification, due to the confinements on phonon transport by boundaries and interfaces.
