The history of the aviation and mechanics disciplines in Tsinghua University can be traced to the 1930s. In 1938, the Department of Aeronautical Engineering was established, followed by the Department of Engineering Mechanics Mathematics in 1958, aiming to foster specialists in the corresponding areas. The School of Aerospace Engineering (SAE) was re-established in 2004. The School is highly rated internationally in the fields of Engineering Mechanics, Thermal Engineering and in the rapidly developing subject of Aeronautics & Astronautics Engineering.
